thanks for the reply, using the HPIJS.ppd intead gives me a job that takes 41 minutes compared to the same job on the postscript ppd of 39 minutes , I also just modified the printer back to usb in cups, and stopped hpiod, and reran the same file, it took less than 3 minutes using the postscript ppd, but the usb backend instead of the hp backend.

I.e. you use the printer's built-in PostScript interpreter
(and not Ghostscript together with the HPIJS driver).
Try the HP-Color_LaserJet_2550-hpijs.ppd
