Pushing this back to the top...
Any workarounds yet? This is getting reallllly frustrating--especially since I
scan and print about equally. When I want to use the scanner (which goes
through HPLIP) after printing through the non-HPLIP printer driver, I have to
"reboot" the printer... then when I want to print after scanning, I have to
"reboot" it again. It's as though HPLIP must either "own" the printer for the
rest of the time that it's on if HPLIP uses it even once. I don't know if this
is another issue or not; I'll make a new post for it if it is.
I'd be happy printing with the non-HPLIP driver if I could switch
back-and-forth seamlessly with HPLIP when it came to scanning, but requiring a
printer reset is painful.
Aaron <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: If possible can you all that are having a
problem with this try using a high speed hub and see if this still happens?
I've been able to reproduce this on ubuntu with usb 2.0. But it seems that usb
1.1 prints in a much more efficient manner. We are testing on Fedora to see if
we have the same result. And are looking into a workaround otherwise.

(Trying to narrow down could be the problem...)
What version of cups are you guys using?

standard 2550 PPD from CUPS still prints fine, but if I use hplip for
processing (although I'm using SuSe 10) is still extremely slow too.

Just FYI: I have not yet resolved this problem myself, either, and it appears
that Boris is having the exact same issue with pretty much the same setup (just
different printer). In the interim period, I have been using a custom PPD
which does not provide the functionality of HPLIP and, therefore, would like to
get this issue resolved as well. Aaron, I have also deleted the printer and
re-ran hp-setup with the exact same results as Boris.

For the sake of being sure, here is the new hp-check output (part about
printer drivers for the printer)
HP_LaserJet_3390
----------------
Device URI: hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_3390?serial=00CNMJP70403
Installed in HPLIP? Yes
PPD: /etc/cups/ppd/HP_LaserJet_3390.ppd
PPD Description: HP LaserJet 3390 Postscript (recommended)
Printer status: printer HP_LaserJet_3390 now printing
HP_LaserJet_3390-108. enabled since Wed 14 Feb 2007 08:40:22 PM CET
Thanks, Boris
