Can you run hp-check and post the output?
I've tested with a LaserJet 3050 on Ubuntu Edgy and there is not a speed
problem. It could be if the print is using an incorrect PPD file.

I have the same problem with LaserJet 3390, using HPLIP 1.7.1 from
SourceForge.
Can I help with any information to solve this problem? The performance
in Windows through VMWare running on the same Linux installation (using
USB) is perfect.
