Any word. I have now switched to 3.2.0b4 081901 and am happily 
indexing without the locale for a start. For now it seems to be 
working. I'll address the locale right after this works.

The latter - no accents

the only fr* I have in the /usr/share/locale is plain fr containing a 
LC_MESSAGES directory. Is there some other place I should look ?

Is there anywhere I should "define" it except in the htdig config 
file, where it says "unknown locale:fr" or something like that ?
