Gilles Thanks a million for that - I've tried it and it's working so far. Only another little problem cropped up. In 3.2 you could specify a config variable for htsearch like config="news|sports|entertainment" is this possible in 3.1.6?? - it doesn't seem to be working for me at the moment.
I can't combine the seperate databases because they'd be too big - but I'd like to be able to combine them for the htseach. thanks again Sean According to Sean Downey: > I'd like to know if the mifluz snapshot will work on FreeBSD?? > do you compile it in the normal way?? > > also does it solve the htmerge memory problem which exists in 3.1.6 and 3.2 > versions? I think Geoff could answer most of these questions better than I could. Perhaps he's already responded, though I don't recall seeing a reply on the list. If I recall, Joe Jah has tried this snapshot on BSDI and had some problems building it -- I don't know if you'd have the same problems on FreeBSD. One trick to this is that you must also build and install the iconv library, but I don't recall whether it is included in the snapshot or must be obtained separately. (Read the notes that come with the snapshot to be sure.) I don't believe this snapshot fixes the htmerge memory problem in 3.2 yet, either. That still requires rewriting it to use the work database "walking" code, which hasn't been tackled yet that I'm aware of. Sorry, I know it's been a long wait for this. As for 3.1.6, its htmerge works completely differently than 3.2's, so I'm surprised that you report memory problems with it. If you don't need 3.2's advanced features, like phrase searching, then I suggest you give 3.1.6 another whirl. Its htmerge should work reliably with even very large databases, as long as you give it lots of temporary file space to work with. Its actual RAM/virtual memory consumption is nowhere near what 3.2's htmerge needs. -- Gilles R.
