The answer depends somewhat on the type of authentication scheme used by the server. If Basic authentication is being used, take a look at the authorization attribute.

There is a -u option to htdig that provides the same functionality.

Thanks for the reply - as noted in a later post, I did find that option - however, I haven't been able to find an example of where or how to add it to the .conf file for that host.
I'm not entirely sure of what 'basic authentication' means in this instance - if I hit the password protected site with a URL like this in a web browser: http://user:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/ - I successfully enter the site. does that assist with a little more detail?
