I don't understand why this would be an issue. Do you want to serve
pages out of a database? If you just want to have all your HTML pages
and then use some shopping cart for ordering, you wouldn't want
ht://Dig to index people's shopping carts! So you'd set ht://Dig to
ignore all CGIs. (This is the installed default.)

No, you cannot reindex a "live" database. So you use the -a flag to
create alternate "work" versions of the databases and then move those
into place.

If you have a shell account, you can compile it yourself. Otherwise,
I suggest breathing fire at them. There are other ISPs. (For example,
see the ht://Dig FAQ: <http://www.htdig.org/FAQ.html#q1.11>
