My guess is that the RPMs are set up to parse PDF files by default. 
So if you haven't changed anything, it's going to try to find a 
program to do that--here it looks like acroread.

If you don't care about parsing pdf files, edit the htdig.conf and 
add in .pdf to the bad_extensions attribute: 
<http://www.htdig.org/attrs.html#bad_extensions>
