Chit Chat
Reform Party presidential hopeful Pat Buchanan joined CNN.com
for an online chat about his bid for presidential candidacy on November 22, 1999. Buchanan joined the chat room from the CNN bureau in Washington D.C. after his live appearance on CNNís Crossfire.
Question from Leo3: Why are you against sanctions on Iraq and Iran but favor trade sanctions on China?
Pat Buchanan:
I believe that if we can engage in wide-open trade with
China, whose regime is responsible for the deaths of somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 million Chinese and is a country with which we fought a major war in Korea, then surely we can at least communicate with Baghdad and Tehran.
Question from Sean: Pat Buchanan: If you intend for the United States to keep peace rather than make war, then would you support a reduction in military budget?
Pat Buchanan: No. I believe with President Washington that the best means of securing peace is to be prepared for war.
Question from Vaneesa: If you win the Reform nomination do you think that the Democrats and Republicans will debate you?
Pat Buchanan: I think if I'm running a credible campaign in the national polls, they will not be able to lock me out.
