If only it was that simple, but it's not. Near where I live, about 1km away are two huge diesel generators that are used to supply electrical current for arc welders. I walk past them everyday and the din they make is a din, not a hum. They also stink. They're going now as the project they supply current for is 24/7 and I can't hear a hum from them at all. I don't suffer from tinnitus and I have, like you good hearing for my age, yet when it's 'on' I can hear the Hum as an electronic noise......MMMmmmMMMMMmmmmmmMMMMMmmmmm.........Nothing at all like a diesel generator.
