I have to say ,in your just mentioned scenario Aux, that you are in a
prime situation for picking up large transformer lamination sub
harmonics at a distance. You wouldn't necessarily hear them right up
close and they would be masked anyway in that local envionment.
I can't remember the article concerning this, but even if I can't lead
you to the topic- some searching might produce results on this.
