In that case it seems there is no defence against it in your mind? Air mass affects the pressure on eardrums and thus could alter the threshold of Hum hearing.... the fact that ambient sound can mask Hum shows that it's not invincible to everyday events even if , as you suggest, it's scalar in totality. If this is the case, then what do you suppose would be an antidote as cessation would seem unlikely. On a philosophical note - everything in the universe has it's opposite !
