Using a device modelled on the cilia of the inner ear the following
observations of the Hum were observed.

1/ The transfer of energy only takes place when the two systems are in
resonance or very close to resonance.

This is a critical factor, only people who have an inner ear at this precise
frequency will hear the Hum, others, in the same room at the same time will
hear nothing.

2/ The maximum transfer of energy takes place when the energy associated with
the Hum is of the same order as that of the cilia, this can be compared to a
matching impedance effect.

If an individual is unfortunate enough to have both these criteria they will
experience the Hum at an excruciating level which in the past has been
responsible for several suicides.

There appears to be no obvious way to de-tune the cilia or alter their energy
level, however it may be possible to disrupt the oscillation and bring relief
to Hum sufferers.

It is well known that a sudden movement of the head will momentarily stop the
Hum, this is undoubtedly due to an interruption of the cilia oscillations.

It is therefore possible that a continuous stream of interruptions would
prevent the cilia oscillations and give the Hum sufferers a measure of relief.

The interruptions need not be drastic or detrimental to a persons health.
Consider for example the thousands of people who spend their lives onboard
ships. They are subjected to the continuous vibrations of engines, generators
and pumps with no problems.

The task now is to determine the optimum frequency and the minimum amount of
energy required to disrupt oscillation of the cilia.
