thanks for replying. It is an overhead line, 3 phase. I have read that the max is 12,000 volts per line. I have lived beside this line for over 25 years, but the problem only started 1 1/2 years ago (August 2011). It continued through a 5 day power outage last June. I was told that about that time a new substation came on line from which we now get our power. I believe the concept of voltage transients (dirty electricity) does apply to my particular location. My desire has always been to find a way to prove that is what I am hearing. I lack the technological savvy to do this. I am getting the impression that even those with a clear understanding of the technology are not able to do it either, or we would have a solid basis for arguing that the utilities are violating our individual rights to a peaceful existence. As it is, since anyone can stand in my yard and say "they don't hear it" it leaves the burden of proof on the victim.
