In recent years I have conducted numerous experiments on the Hum all of which have been modelled on the cilia of the inner ear, that is, a small mass suspended on a spring and tuned to the frequency of the Hum.
The latest device is a variant of the earlier models, it is constructed in the manner of a musical instrument where the reed is contained in a frame and a current of air is made to flow over the reed. See the attached photo. The volume and speed of the air flow is very critical, it must be just sufficient to replace the energy lost in the vibrating reed. The principle is as before, to allow the reed to interact with the Hum and produce a beat frequency and by examination of this beat frequency deduce details of the Hum. The device has shown no problems and produced excellent results.
