I'm a Microsoft technician, so I generally can fix instability problems in
software. Logic works great for mastering a track, but it's tedious to
develop tracks on (IMHO).

I was using the Rm1x, an A3000 sampler (which I wouldn't mind selling --
offers?), and the Nord Micro. I found that the sampler ended up as a
repository for the sounds I created on the Micro. I figured I might as
well just get the Keyboard version of the Modular since it's so powerful
and flexible. A single patch can be a whole composition. Just imagine 4
of them put together! Makes me dizzy. Since then I stopped using the
sampler because I want to milk as much sound out of the remaining boxes,
rather than finding some cool sound and sampling it. I can so sample
based stuff in Acid or what have you.

I feel that the Rm1x plus a good multitimbral analogue-style synth, plus
a mixer and maybe an effects box, is a total setup for making Techno.
Since I make Techno, it's the right setup for me. Someone into Jungle
might ditch the synth and keep the sampler. I guess it's all up to the
producer.

Everything that I write and record is performance-oriented. My finished
tracks are largely improvised. I find that one can discover many new
sounds when the tape (sic) is rolling or an audience is watching. You
can't stop and redraw a filter sweep with the pencil tool ;)

Hope this helps!

Respect,
Scott Kellogg
