I thought about the midi-out last night and came to the conclusion that 
it can be done without much work, if it is intended to create feedback 
data for external controllers.
A basic (alsa) midi output class is somewhere on my disk, so it might be 
just writing a wrapper around it to make it easier to implement other 
drivers. I'll see...

To be honest: I have no idea how Ableton Live works and what it is :) 
What is the "loop-based" approach of Ableton Live? I should try a demo 
version next week..
