No, I meant that +/- 100 cents editing seems only useful for non-drum
samples. The pitch adjustment is very useful for all samples.
I was thinking, though, about hardware I've used in the past. Usually,
the course adjustment is a knob with graduations and limits (like what we
have). On the other hand, the "fine" knob is usually a continuous knob
with no stops or graduations (markings).
Since that probably got lost in translation... let me explain what I'm
thinking...
Course Knob: Whenever you move the course knob, it snaps
'pitch' to a whole number. So, if you were
at 1.40 and move the course knob... you'll
now be at 0.00 or 2.00.
Course Knob Display: Integer (rounded value of 'pitch')
Fine Knob: This knob will not have a mark on it. It
will be plain and able to spin freely
(e.g. 960-degrees). When the knob is moved,
it will bump 'pitch' by +/- 1 cent (.01).
So, if 'pitch' is 1.48 (display: 1, 49) and
you bump the knob up, you'll see:
1, 48
1, 49
1, 50
2, -49
2, -48
Fine Knob Display: Integer between +/- 50.
The problem: This requires that we modify/fork the Knob widget to allow
the knob to be free-spinning and event-based ("bumping" the value instead
of "setting" the value).
Peace,
Gabriel
