Howard is correct in IMHO but hardware can also be bad news.

At my site we run z/OS on a small 115-MIP z800 box ("legacy" COBOL, CICS, etc).
Our Oracle 9i runs (hard) on a 2-box SUN cluster. The usual
pass data back and forth stuff with "Webbing" on the Windoze side
for good measure. Oh what tangled webs we weave...

We are upgrading to Oracle 10g and investigated running it on Linux on our
z800. An early bad sign was IBM Linux doc mentioning successfully running **
"lightly loaded" ** Linux apps on it's z-boxes. Lightly loaded?!?

Well, we had IBM take our SUN stats and make a recommendation. IBM came back
and gave us their recommendation (aka bad news)... a 900-MIP box!
Needless to say, mgt did not whip out their checkbook.

We are running Linux but not a 900-MIP IBM box.

So... I'll be posting my "another one bites the dust" when our z800
lease is up in two years. )-:` But... SUN's days are also numbered.
(-:`

Company is retraining us "mainframers" (well, most of us) so at least there is
a paycheck for milk for my boys! (-:`
