Oh, so it WILL slow growth eh? When? Any day soon?
What a band of temporarly challenged genii. High software prices
have been retarding growth for decades. Customers have been fleeced
blind ever since the marketing vampires figured out that hitching
prices to "MIPS" was as close as they could get to robbery without
facing jail time. <sigh>
Since the introduction of zSeries, IBM has seen *substantial* growth
both in terms of raw mainframe capacity shipped and, more importantly,
in terms of world-wide market share in the large server (i.e., >$250K)
marketplace, gaining three full points in 2002 alone! (Source: IDC
Quarterly Tracker). While Sun, HP and others took *major* dives after
Y2K, IBM stayed healthy, introduced a new server line with $1B of R&D
investment, and capitalized on the resulting opportunities that
presented themselves.
This can't be ignored.
