I'm getting ready to try out running some JRuby on the Mainframe. It's the closest I can get to porting Ruby to z/OS. REXX isn't a half bad language and I can definitely see why it has such a following. For the time when it was introduced, it brought a lot of sanity to programming on the Mainframe. But Ruby is just so enjoyable to program with and it's *so* powerful.
If I have good results, my next target is to run the JRuby against CICS and IMS. :D On Sun, Oct 25, 2009 at 12:12 AM, Timothy Sipples < [email protected]> wrote: > Yes, there are other programming languages that can run in a Java Virtual > Machine, including the z/OS Java SDK (and also in application environments > that support Java, such as CICS Transaction Server, IMS Transaction > Manager, DB2 Java stored procedures, and WebSphere Application Server for > z/OS, to pick a few examples).
