I basically agree with that sentiment. But if the OP was in a position to
open the entire can of worms the first question should be "what business
functionality is actually required?" Once you get past that you can drill
into the question of whether a formal subsystem is even the right answer any
more, regardless of how well done it is. My guess would be "not".
