TR is slow for a single instruction, but it's way faster than the
alternative of a byte-at-a-time instruction loop.

In the z890/z990/z9, the TR instruction (and its cousins) are supposedly handled in the same co-processor which handles encryption, to improve performance. I haven't tried to benchmark it.
