Last year we converted several Compuware products to IBM PDTOOLS
replacements. Some brief comments:
File Manager:
* IBM's conversion took much longer than expected.
* Jobs which involved large files often ran longer and used more CPU (50% or
more) using File Manager than FileAid. This was largely resolved by changing
these jobs to use some other utility (Syncsort copy was found to outperform
FileAid in almost all of these cases.)
* FileAid and File Manager handle truncation of VB files differently. This was
often an issue for us.
Jeff,
I'm currently developing a utility that will include conversion
between RECFM F and RECFM V as one of its features. I'd be
interested in hearing your views on how this _should_ be
implemented if truncation can occur.
In fact, I'd be interested in hearing anyone's views on this
area; I'm sure I'd gain some new insights. Send to me off-list
if you prefer.
