Had a strange thing happen today. Basically Qwest, our
broadband supplier, shut off access to the internet
because we've supposedly exceeded our monthly download
limit of 200GB.
Their phone menu system is awful so I ended up in an
online chat with tech support. I didn't even know we
had a limit. Even so, 200GB/month should be plenty of
capacity. So I asked the guy how we can tell: how can
we monitor download activity and find out where it's
coming from and to at least keep an eye on things.
He told me there were free download monitors available;
but he wouldn't point me to any since they did not
come from Qwest.
So, I thought I'd ask this group if they had any
recommendations; after all, installing software
monitoring your network usage is opening up a lot
of potential holes, it seems to me. So who can
ya' trust?
Bringing it back on topic: to get back connected to
the internet I had to shut down my modem; which meant
bringing down my browser, my email client, and my
connection to the mainframe system in Dallas.
Thanks for any insights / experiences you can share
on this.
Sounds very odd. Does your gut tell you that you are moving that much data
a month?
No, it doesn't. But I have no way of confirming / proving it;
hence my search for this program.
