The behavior haven't changed at least since 1998.

BTW: there are workarounds (or cheats) - like in every computer game ;-)))
Masks like: *% or %*.** do work.

Hmmm....  When did that change?

Haven't had occasion to try it "recently", but it used to work at z/OS
1.7 (and, I think, 1.9).  Now, on z/OS 1.11 it gives "Invalid Dsname
Level" (single or double asterisk).
