In ISPF the semi-colon is a logical-end-of line character. You can either 
change it to something else, or enter x x'5e' (the hex equivalent of ;). Or do 
you want the "hide x" command so that you don't see the dashed lines on the 
screen where the excluded lines are? I'm not sure.
