WRT TVs, the term "1080p" refers to horizontal scan lines and mode of
scan:  "p" is "progressive", "I" is "interlaced".  For HDTV, 1920 refers
to the number of "columns", or picture width.  Thus the "native" screen
size of HDTV is 1080 x 1920.
