Hi, We have a recurring problem with HFS under R7 only which is for the moment stumping the good folks in DFSMS and Media Manager Level 2.
We initially saw SVC dumps Title=COMPID=DF185,CSECT=GFUZRDWR+3832,DATE=01/31/06,MAINTID=UA24063 ,ABND=0F4,RC=00000024,RSN=5BC20108 02AUG 06:47:45 CONSOLE DUMPID=001 REQUESTED BY JOB (OMVS ) 02AUG 06:47:45 CONSOLE DUMP TITLE=COMPID=DF185,CSECT=GFUZIOER+0988,DATE=04/09/05,MAINT 02AUG 06:47:45 CONSOLE ID=NONE ,ABND=0F4,RC=00000024,RSN=5BC50104 HFS files corrupted several times and the symptom that makes it visible quickly failed pipe connections in CICS WED 8/02 during an IPL to upgrade to z/OS R7 we had the following msg and the HFS became corrupt: IGW027E HFS OMVS.PT01.CICS31.HFS SYNC I/O ERROR. RC=00000024 RSN=5B260104 We recovered the file and the CICS folks re-established their pipes. The file experienced the same SYNC error on Thurs 8/03. We recovered the HFS again and this time set the MOUNT SYNC(0) PARM. At this time the file has NOT become corrupt again....HOWEVER....the CICS folks are having lots of issues establishing their pipe connections. They recv the following msg: DFHPI0705 E 08/02/2006 06:51:45 CICSD5AV TRNCICS PIPELINE EXPIPE01 encountered an error writing the configuration to the derived shelf /usr/lpp/cics31/CICSD5AV/PIPELINE/EXPIPE01/. The response code from the HFS write was X'0000007A' and the reason code was 'X'5B4B000C' DFHPI0709 E 08/02/2006 06:51:45 CICSD5AV TRNCICS PIPELINE EXPIPE01 resolution failed because the XML configuration file cannot be copied to the derived shelf. DFHPI0705 E 08/02/2006 06:51:45 CICSD5AV TRNCICS PIPELINE EXPIPE02 encountered an error writing the configuration to the derived shelf /usr/lpp/cics31/CICSD5AV/PIPELINE/EXPIPE02/. The response code from the HFS write was X'0000007A' and the reason code was 'X'5B4B000C' DFHPI0709 E 08/02/2006 06:51:45 CICSD5AV TRNCICS PIPELINE EXPIPE02 resolution failed because the XML configuration file cannot be copied to the derived shelf. The current diagnosis is unexpected I/O error from Media Manager with no explanation. They are working on that. The best recommendation so far is convert all HFS files to ZFS before or during the upgrade to R7. Anyone seen anything remotely like this recently? Maybe you didn't report it to IBM because you thought it was a one-off or a procedural error on your part.
