Not true! See chapter 21.8 Generating jobnames for OMVS address spaces in the "z/OS UNIX System Services Plannig" manual for the details. In summary, a single digit is added to jobnames shorter than 8 characters. After 9 has been used the digit wraps back top 1. Eight character jobnames stay unchanged.
