On the other hand, one of the weaknesses of Windows is that it tries to be evolutionary under the covers. Apples has re-written its core for different processors, and with OS-X went to Unix under the covers - which allowed it to be written with a core that was less subject to malware. It could do this because it wasn't concerned with hardware compatibility (as with IBM mainframes, the software and hardware designs were owned by the same company).
