Why not just run multiple console sessions on the same physical PC? I have 3 Pcomm master consoles on one PC with a big monitor. Could put more but have no need. ------Original Message------ From: Marsan, Tammi Sender: IBM Mainframe Discussion List To: IBM-MAIN@bama.ua.edu ReplyTo: IBM Mainframe Discussion List Subject: Re: Virtual consoles Sent: Dec 12, 2008 12:41
We recently used software from a company called IO Concepts to virtualize our consoles. I can't give all the specifics, but it seems to be working very well for Operations and the vendor was extremely helpful. We are running an z9BC. All our TN3270E consoles (Hummingbird HostExplorer) are attached via two OSA-ICC (Integrated Console Controllers). We have 10 physical Windows XP Workstations running 20 console sessions (master, alternates, hardcopy, vtam, monitors) for three lpars. Instead of 10 physical PCs, I'm wondering if I could attach them to 2 servers running 10 virtual PCs. My concern is the network traffic. Any comments?
