As mentioned earlier we DO supply some customers on CD. I suppose it's just
a case of persuading the others to accept them. Even re-furbished 3490E's
are going for 5-7 GBP EACH here (7-10 USD) and they won't get any cheaper.

No one needs 3490's, and haven't for years.

I'd steer well clear of used tapes; they have a finite life span starting
from the day they left the factory. And, the last I heard, the last factory
was converted some time ago.

Using such antique media would suggest to me that your company is not
keeping up with the industry and is not keeping up with their customers'
needs.

As others suggested, a FTP server, CD's, or even email attachments seem to
be the preferred methods these days.

Just a thought.

Thanks to all who replied. Our dilemma is that we still supply our software
on 3480s!
We've got a new z9 and a 3490 drive and thought going to 3490Es was right -
most customers could read them. Not sure if they can all read 3590Es.

admil.co.uk say they can't get them. Still awaiting reply from Media
Resources.

Hope everyone has got enough in stock for all their future requirements!!

You might consider upgrading to 3590s. They're denser, faster, "dirt"
cheap to buy on the used market, and because they are newer technology, the
monthly maintenance costs should be lower than 3490 drives.
