Thanks. Looks to be 100% or at least 98% compatible at the "send an e-mail" level so I don't think it matters a lot to this application.
SMTP is already up and running and functional and CSSMTP is not, so it makes sense to use SMTP for now. The system in question is V2R1 (yes, I know) and soon to be V2R4.
