I created a list of datasets from DCOLLECT that had been allocated but never opened. I then ran a REXX routine that read the list to open/close the datasets. At that point I let HSM do its thing. In the back of my mind, I'm thinking that HSM might not touch a dataset if it has never been opened. Now I don't recall if you can force HSM to migrate a dataset that has never been opened. Just migrate them all with an expiration date. Those that get recalled are still referenced somewhere. Currently, we are planning to delete all the datasets where LASTREF=NONE and DSORG=PS. This operation seems crucial for system maintenance Dear all I am reaching out to discuss a specific operation we are considering for our z/OS DCOLLECT reports. Currently, we are planning to delete all the datasets where LASTREF=NONE and DSORG=PS. This operation seems crucial for system maintenance and optimization, yet I wanted to clarify any potential risks associated with this action. As far as I understand, LASTREF refers to the last accessed date of the file. Hence, LASTREF=NONE implies that the file has not been accessed since its creation. Could you confirm if my understanding is correct? Additionally, I have been attempting to search for more information about LASTREF=NONE in the IBM manual, but my efforts have yielded limited success. If possible, could you kindly guide me on how to navigate the manual to find specific information like this one or recommend any reliable resources where such details may be more readily available? Lastly, does IBM have any specific requirements regarding the closure of PS datasets? By this I mean if a PS has been opened and never closed, would the LASTREF also be none?
