Linux is cheap. You can even get it on top of Windoze these days. (And/or CYGWIN, which is a whole nutha story.)

It not only helps with education and edification, but with coding.
I *regularly* (almost always) re-compile and re-run my code on Linux, FreeBSD, CYGWIN, and (of course) USS and AIX (when I have them available). Warts and bugs and typos bubble to the surface and get skimmed off like dross. Presumptions and pre-reqs show clearly and get resolved. Aaaahhhhhh......
