Hi Craig, Not quite the same question. We already have NTP running on the windows boxes. I was asked if the mainframe could participate as a client, getting its time from a windows based NTP server.

If this is the question, then the answer is yes. In fact, we once ran the SNTP server in both OS/390 V2R10 and z/OS V1R4 for just this so that the distributed systems could use the mainframe as their time source. I've seen older threads on this subject that are several years old, and even then, I saw a lot of "yes it can" versus "no it can't". SO here's my scenario and question (based on management asking me). We are running a zBC12, 2 LPARs, z/OS 1.13, no sysplex. Can z/OS in this environment function as an NTP client without needing to buy/install/implement STP on the z? I've done some research/reading on this but haven't found the definitive answer. If somebody could point me to where the answer is, that would be much appreciated.
