That makes it difficult to get support if some people at UA don't think
we exist. Obviously other group members are not having this message
bounce problem, which would seem to point to something unique in either
Charles' Email (that Email filters might misinterpret?) or in the mail
interface between Charles' ISP and listserv.ua.edu.

John Watters' own description of his job function (Network Engineer,
wireless networking on campus) does imply he would be pretty far removed
from any direct knowledge of listserv support --it would appear the UA
Help Desk totally mis-routed this problem as a network issue instead of
an Email/listserv issue.

Since John was not really in a position to know, I vote we inform him
that not only does IBM-MAIN still exist on listserv.ua.edu, but that it
is one of the more active and successful listserv groups supported
there, with almost 7000 subscribers reported today by listserv..ua.edu.
He should pass that knowledge back to their Help Desk so both he and
their Help Desk know not to give out incorrect information or mis-route
similar inquiries in the future.

I don't know if those on the University of Alabama campus currently
have direct access to z-Architecture hardware, but there are sites that
include University of Alabama as a participant in the System z Academic
Initiative Program. Even should they lack direct access, that doesn't
preclude UA from continuing to support the IBM-MAIN list as a public
educational service to keep those in their own CIS Department and beyond
informed of IBM mainframe issues.
