It is not clear to me what the OP meant by "next unit of work workload"

If the work unit (task or SRB) is currently dispatched, as a response 
indicated, alternate CPU recovery may take place (in effect continuing the 
current dispatch, in a limited fashion, on a different processor, with 
that other processor masquerading as the failing processor).

Regardless, when it comes to the next dispatch, any eligible processor can 
be used. When "CPU affinity" was supported, a processor failure when it 
was the processor to which your work unit had affinity, could pretty much 
leave that work unit with nowhere to run.
