I just gave up on this approach and changed it to use a mod 3 I had labelled as 
VMACCT and had used for V4.3.  Now, I have the DISKACNT 100 cyl on that volume 
instead of 510RES and it seems to be ok...

Yes, the Q DISK showed 400 ,but Q V 501 showed 100...

Hello Anne,

        Yes that sound right.  I take it that you  did not CMS FORMAT
the new
Mdisk.  

        You should be able to do a Q V <cuu> and see the 100 cyl,  but
when you do a Q DISK it shows the 400 right?
