We are going to be running a configuration soon that is a bit out of the ordinary, and it is driving me more than a little crazy trying to figure out how to support it. If anyone is running anything similar, I would surely appreciate advice, or better yet references!
We have a z800 0E1 here, with two LPARS. LPAR one uses an IFL to support many zLinux ( SuSE 9.2) instances on top of z/VM 4.4.
LPAR 2 has z/VM 5.2 running in it, and is intended to support one z/Linux instance that will be running Tivoli TMS and driving the Enterprise backup.
I modified the IODC (using the HMC, I have not figured out how to use the z/VM software for doing so yet... :) to change a free FC channel to a FCP channel, and added a CUNUMBR line to support. I’ve included the definition file below, with the interesting bits marked in red. :)
From z/VM I can do a query on the CHPID (F3 in this case) and I see that it thinks there are devices available out there. That is kind strange, because the new tapes are not yet attached there are two new 3592 TS1120 tape drives ready to connect to the SAN switch and configure. The FiCON port is also ready to connect to the SAN switch and, if necessary, do any configuration.
Problem is, from this point on I am lost there are WorldWidePort addresses and a lot of other terminology I am not familiar with. So any references or pointers would be very much appreciated. I have a feeling that this is not all that hard. The Shark is current attached to the same SAN switches, and provides DASD for the PC’s.
I did find EDEFINE in the manuals, but I am not sure of what all the options means. Is there a ‘Connecting FCP Tapes to a zSeries Machines Running z/VM5.2 and z/Linux So You Can Run Tivoli TMS On It For Dummies” around somewhere? Perhaps a redbook?
Thanks Paul
