Alan,

Just looking at the USER DIRECT on the z/VM 5.2.0 distributed 2CC disk
has MACHINE ESA, XA and XC all over the place.

At a general rule, all CMS users should be MACHINE XC.  Any old IF 
MACHINE_MODE <> "XA" THEN <do something 370ish> code needs to be cleaned

out, anyway, as there's no such thing a 370-mode CMS any more and the 
machines don't have 370 microcode in them.
