Ed, No, you do not need a local host file. First check to see if you can resolve any addresses at all. (You can alternatively use the NSLOOKUP command to check host resolution) If you cannot, make sure you have a valid TCPIP DATA file accessed by the SMTP server. Usually you will have another host in your domain function as a dns server - make sure it is defined with the NSINTERADDR parm.
