Not Janice but what I would say is that dropped nosebands in themselves are not bad, we use them, but how tight you have them is what really prevents there from having release. Same goes for contact on the reins - depends on how much pressure the rider has on the reins. Many western reins are weighted and so even a loose rein feels like contact.
