I have a friend who sent her paso mare to a reputable trainer about 4
hours drive away. She dropped in unannounced on a weekday and found
her tied in a hot stall with no water or sign of hay and an open wound
so deep it needed stitches on her hock with maggots crawling in it.
She called the sheriff on the spot and had the humane society haul her
mare to hold til she could go home and get her trailer and she had the
man arrested and pressed charges. He said he witheld food and water
when training because it made them "have a more willing attitude" and
that she had hurt her leg that morning. what a jerk. now he isnt a
reputable trainer anymore, he's pretty much ruined cause everybody
talks about it now.
