Um, the cow wasn't the problem - it was the 12ft metal gate on the end of it hitting us in the flank that frightened the horse!!!! (not unreasonably, I feel). At the time we were on a busy main road and a leap or run would have meant landing under a lorry doing 60mph. I shall continue teaching the one rein stop to all my lot - and anyone I teach, too.
