We use a crupper on Gat.  She's built downhill, has a slight sway, and
has a forward girth groove so without a crupper the saddle seems to
inch up her neck.  When I bought her they had always used a foregirth
and to me that seemed like a lot of strapping and leather under her
armpits and girth area.

When I dismount I first remove both feet from the stirrups, swing my
leg over and jump down away from sliding down the horses side.  I
think they call that an emergency dismount, not sure.
