JESUIT OPEN INTERSECTIONAL
HOST: FORDHAM UNIVERSITY SEPTEMBER 27-28, 2008
VENUE: MORRIS YACHT & BEACH CLUB, CITY ISLAND, NY - WESTERN LONG
ISLAND SOUND

REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:
A steady 8-10 knot breeze from the northeast provided an opportunity to sail
16 of the scheduled 24 races of a double round-robin on Saturday. On Sunday,
the breeze lessened to 3-6 knots from the same direction and died during Race
10B. Twenty races were sailed. Breakdown points were awarded in one division.
One protest was filed and the protestee retired after finishing. Amazingly, the
rain, which had been forecast all weekend, held off until after the last
race.

As always, competitors were treated to fantastic Bagels & Cream Cheese from H&
H Bagels on Second Avenue; delicious New England Clam Chowder from The Shrimp
Box on City Island, and Zagat's ranked "The #1 Cheesecake in New York City"
from S&S Bakery in the Bronx.

HISTORY:

The Jesuit School Regatta began in 1955 for bragging rights among Fordham,
Georgetown & St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia. From 1955 - 1971, it was
held
22 times and Georgetown won 13 of the competitions; Fordham captured "The
Cup" five times; Holy Cross twice and the University of Detroit and Boston
College once each. From 1972 - 2001, no regatta was held but the event was
resurrected by Fordham in 2002 and the original "Jesuit Cup" was found in the
attic of
a Fordham alumnus, where it had been for 27 years. Since then, participants
have included Fairfield, John Carroll, Loyola & Marquette as well as Notre
Dame,
Providence & Villanova. This year, the regatta was opened to all ICSA schools
and will officially become the Jesuit Open Intersectional in 2009. We are
delighted that the University of Vermont and Miami University of Ohio were able
to join us. As Providence coach, Matt Largess said, "This is a terrific place
to sail and an event with such great tradition. I'll pass the word in NEISA so
we'll fill up the 10-boat fleet next year."

Congratulations to Georgetown for winning this year's competition. The Hoyas
take home a "Loaner" plaque, which is passed along to the winner each year,
while the "Jesuit Cup" is maintained at the Vincent T. Lombardi Memorial Center
on Fordham's Rose Hill campus.

We would like to thank Friends of Fordham Sailing, Paul Laddomada & Maura
Mandrano for providing their very comfortable yacht with deck chairs to serve
as
Race Committee boat and seniors Kendra White and Matt Badila for helping to
organize and run the regatta.

Loyola was a No Show.
