US Sailing Introduces "REACH"
Curriculum for Teaching Math & Science

National Consortium Member US Sailing has introduced a new middle school
curriculum entitled REACH that utilizes sailing as an educational platform to
teach STEM topics (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

The modules can be used as a stand alone program or combined with "Learn
Sailing Right!" beginner or intermediate programs offered by sailing schools.

All ten modules are available in PDF form online and are free for use by
schools and program throughout the United States. *Click here to visit US
Sailing's REACH webpage to learn more and download the curriculum modules.

Rainy Day Kits from National Consortium Member Sailors for the Sea are
environmental lesson plans focused on marine ecology that can be taught to
yacht clubs, sailing programs, and other low resource environments around the

Hurricane Sandy
Most Consortium members in areas impacted by Hurricane Sandy sustained
relatively minor damage and long power outages from the storm. However, Hudson
River Community Sailing's boathouse and classrooms were inundated. They are
running their winter boatbuilding program out of temporary facilities. Rocking
the Boat also sustained damage to their docks on the Bronx River.
