Thought I am not an expert in using Qcad, I have used it a little and also AutoCAD a bit before that. So, I can say that Qcad is rather similar to AutoCAD as far as its command line is concerned. If your father is familiar with AutoCAD command line, I am sure he can learn to use Qcad easily, thought I have not seen commands like pline in Qcad. But the graphical interface is very different. Still, I think, one can start using the menu without much difficulty. In fact, for a person who is familiar with AutoCAD, this should not pose a big challenge. The toolbox at the left is, I think, different from the one in AutoCAD. But, overall, it should not be difficult for a person familiar with AutoCAD to move to Qcad, though it may take some time to become familiar with the new interface. Best -- V.
